The unique local scenery, food, hot springs, festivals, folk art, and other factors that shape the history and climate of a region evoke memories of travel and at the same time stimulate the desire to travel.
Perhaps people are drawn to travel because the unfamiliar landscapes they encounter on their journeys and the nostalgic places and things that continue to exist as they did in the past temporarily release us from our daily lives, which are moving at a tremendous pace.
Taking the next step forward, Hyakudan Kaidan -The Hundred Stairs-, a cultural asset that will be open from the end of the year to the beginning of the New Year, will feature a variety of Japanese scenery in seven rooms of the cultural asset's architecture.
In collaboration with contemporary creators and writers, enjoy a world that makes you feel as if you have wandered into a mysterious world that somehow brings back memories of the good old days, including fictional neon signs that illuminate hot spring resort towns, approximately 200 kokeshi dolls divided into 11 varieties from 6 Tohoku prefectures, and a collaborative exhibition with Minori Kai's book Nihon Zenkoku Jimoto Pan (Local Breads from All Over Japan) that features unique Jimoto Pan ®︎ (local bread) from around Japan that reminds you of a simpler time.
In addition, as part of the Journey to the Former Meguro Gajoen, historical materials such as pamphlets and newspaper advertisements from the time of its opening will also be on display. We invite you to experience Nippon Travel only available at the cultural asset Hyakudan Kaidan -The Hundred Stairs-.
